Silly-E-Badu, -can now add Givenchy Muse to her long list of nick names.

Ricardo Tisci made it a point to not just include a black woman in his spring campaign, he EXCLUSIVELY used a black woman in his spring campaign. And he didn’t use just any black woman, he used Ms. BlackQueenMotherEarthBadu herself. Tisci has always praised Badu’s fashion prowess and admitted to using her image as a muse when designing the Spring 2014 collection. From what I’ve seen, the photos shot by Mert + Marcus are amazing and I predict a beautiful campaign. Using Badu as a face in fashion is a step in the right direction for diversity in the fashion magazines and on the runways. I just hope this black and brown movement becomes a routine practice and not just a trend.

Style Icon: Ms. Diana Ross

Diana Ross

It is no secret that I am truly, madly, deeply in love with Ms. Diana Ross. Since the age of eleven years old, the first saw “Mahogany,” I knew this would be a lasting love affair. She is everything to me. Grace, glamour, style, sophistication and all of the above. Ms. Ross is embodiment of what a smart, talented, brave woman should be and for that reason, I am highlighting her as a House of Leigh style icon.

Check out the photos below of some of her classic looks.

I was just recently introduced to the awesomeness that is the young New Zealand singer Ella Yelich-O’Connor aka Lorde. Her single “Royals” hits home on so many levels. Watch the video, read the lyrics. Get into it. Her debut album Pure Heroine is an electropop dream. She’s so young and talented. I could definitely see her collaborating with the likes of M.I.A. and Yeezus. Check her out.

“Royals”

[Verse 1]
I’ve never seen a diamond in the flesh
I cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies
And I’m not proud of my address,
In a torn-up town, no post code envy

[Hook]
But every song’s like gold teeth, grey goose, trippin’ in the bathroom
Blood stains, ball gowns, trashin’ the hotel room,
We don’t care, we’re driving Cadillacs in our dreams.
But everybody’s like Cristal, Maybach, diamonds on your time piece.
Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash.
We don’t care, we aren’t caught up in your love affair.

And we’ll never be royals (royals).
It don’t run in our blood,
That kind of luxe just ain’t for us.
We crave a different kind of buzz.
Let me be your ruler (ruler),
You can call me queen Bee
And baby I’ll rule, I’ll rule, I’ll rule, I’ll rule.
Let me live that fantasy.

[Verse 2]
My friends and I – we’ve cracked the code.
We count our dollars on the train to the party.
And everyone who knows us knows that we’re fine with this,
We didn’t come from money.

[Hook]

Ooh ooh oh
We’re bigger than we ever dreamed,
And I’m in love with being queen.
Ooh ooh oh
Life is great without a care
We aren’t caught up in your love affair.

And we’ll never be royals (royals).
It don’t run in our blood

Drake’s third studio album, “Nothing Was the Same” was MY highly anticipated album of the year. I am such a big fan of this guy. The more emo, the better. And I would have to say that NWTS is incredibly emo, heartfelt and honest. Kudos to Aubrey for being a rapper not afraid to share his feelings and insecurities in love, relationships and success. “From Time” featuring the vocals and lyrical brilliance of the gorgeous Jhene Chilombo is one of my faves. Enjoy. xoxox
